The Creator by Gareth Edwards, the official poster

Discovered at the beginning of the summer, the trailer for The Creator suggests an ambitious SF film and, for once, endowed with apparently remarkably well-designed special effects. The official poster has just dropped.

Since Dune by Denis Villeneuve and probably soon Rebel Moon by Zack Snyder, we had not had this feeling of discovering a new universe of SF as ambitious and innovative as the one proposed in the trailer for The Creator. The film is directed by Gareth Edwards (Rogue One, Monsters) and it already looks like a festival of thrills and ambitious sequences unlike any other.

Alert on the dangers of AI

The official synopsis reads: “In the near future, humans and artificial intelligence (AI) are waging an all-out war. Joshua, an ex-special forces agent weakened by the disappearance of his wife, is recruited to hunt down and neutralize the Creator, the elusive architect of an advanced AI behind a weapon that could end the war. …and destroy all of humanity. With the help of an elite unit of operatives, Joshua breaks through enemy lines and penetrates deep into their dangerous territory. He will soon discover that the deadly weapon he is tasked with destroying is none other than a superior artificial intelligence that has taken on the features of a young child”.

The Creator, September 27 at the cinema

The Creator's story was imagined by Gareth Edwards himself and co-written by Chris Weitz, already co-writer of Rogue One. In the cast, John David Washington (Tenet), Gemma Chan (The Eternals), Ken Watanabe (Inception), Allison Janney (Me, Tonya), Sturgill Simpson (Killers of the Flower Moon) and the young Madeleine Yuna Voyles, whose it will be the first appearance on screen.

The Creator will be released in France on September 27th.
