When a new version of the iPhone operating system -iOS- comes out, it's almost always an event in terms of the new features it brings, and Apple systematically encourages its users to install it.

What absolute market share for iOS16?

However, some don't jump on it, either because their device is too old and therefore not compatible, or because they want to wait for the initial bugs to be fixed in a later update, or simply because they don't care. Apple recently unveiled the adoption figures for the latest iOS16 (launched in September 2022), and the results are quite satisfactory: 81% of iPhones on the market are currently running iOS16, compared to 72% at the start of the year. 13% are still on iOS15, and 6% are using an even older version.

What market share for iOS16 for the four most recent iPhone vintages?

The result is of course more flattering when Apple counts only the iPhones released in the last four years: the adoption rate of iOS16 then climbs to 90%, iOS15 drops to 8%, and older OSes peak at 2 % of the park.
