Hisense 100LX/120LX 8K Laser TV, updated specifications and diagonals

After a presentation at the CES show in Las Vegas 2023 last January, the manufacturer Hisense further presented the Laser TV Hisense LX range during a press conference in China a few weeks ago. So little additional technical information has been provided in relation to the brand's conference in Las Vegas, on the other hand several references are on the menu.

In addition to the Hisense 120LX unveiled at CES 2023, we now know that the Hisense 100LX will also be on the program. Among the new details announced by Hisense, the Rec.2020 gamut shows 110% coverage (against 100% last January), good news for HDR signals. Similarly, Hisense has specified that Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.1/NFC compatibility are required. Finally, the Smart TV Vidaa function associated with 4 GB of RAM and 128 GB of flash memory are also present. Not to mention HDR Dolby Vision compatibility.

Even if Hisense said little about its latest addition, the Laser TV 8K 120LX, we still learned that its brightness on a 120'' screen, i.e. 305 cm (not at the projector output), displays up to 400nits. An appreciable value for rendering an HDR signal for example.

Hisense 120LX/100LX 8K Laser TV Main Specs

For the rest, the Hisense 120LX and Hisense 100LX are still triple laser models (exclusive Trichroma technology) equipped with a sound section of obedience 4.1.2, compatible Dolby Atmos is signed Harman Kardon. The management of DTS Virtual: X, present at the CES show, no longer seems relevant. A motion detection module is present in order to locate the viewer in space and focus the sound to optimize the sound rendering. Also worth noting is the Imax Enhanced certification.

8K DMD 0.94'' chip unveiled by Hisense/Texas Instrument

While up to now, Hisense Laser TV hardware has included 0.47'' (1.2 cm) or 0.66'' (1.67 cm) DMD chips, the 8K models are built around an unprecedented 0.94'' (2.38 cm) DMD chip unveiled at the manufacturer's press conference in China. This is a more than interesting precision because, at the time of writing these lines, such a chip still does not exist in the TI catalog (Texas Instrument, creator of DLP technology). Since the TI offer is currently topped by a 0.78'' (1.98 cm) chip with native Ultra HD 4K resolution, this future 0.94'' chip should no doubt be seen as a close collaboration with Hisense, which would have thus a temporary exclusivity.

Ultra HD 8K, native definition or via XPR process?

Otherwise, we still don't know if the display of 33 million pixels of 8K UHD definition is linked to a suitable native resolution or a total obtained via the XPR process (wobulation). As a reminder, there is currently no 8K video projection system, consumer or professional. The disclosure of the presence of a 0.94'' DMD chip leaves all doors open: its larger size could mean more mirrors for a higher native resolution, or a brighter rendering at a constant number of mirrors (the 8K would be ensured via XPR) but with a higher pitch for a more efficient display of HDR content.

Availability announced for the last quarter of 2023. Indicative price: 28,000 euros.
