According to the latest estimates from Euroconsult, 2.6 billion people - around a third of the world's population - are not connected to the internet.
Internet usage doubled in 8 years
Internet usage, however, has doubled in the past eight years, with 67% of the world's population using broadband services in 2022. Mobile internet has been the main driver of growth for subscriptions and networks these last years.
Developing and underdeveloped countries lagging behind the internet
Connection for all has become a growing priority for governments, given essential services such as remote health, teleworking, education, the ability to share information, etc. Developing and less developed countries, however, are lagging behind, with more than a third of their population not connected to the internet.
Prediction of 1 billion people not connected in 2030
Asia Pacific and sub-Saharan Africa alone account for 85% of the world's unconnected population. Euroconsult estimates that at least a billion people - mainly in a state of extreme poverty and not interested in connection - will still be without internet in 2030.
