LG and Samsung in pole position on the metaverse

The number of patents concerning the metaverse - the internet as a virtual world - has increased considerably in recent years.

The global metaverse market - the internet as a coherent world accessible via virtual reality (VR) - is expected to be worth $110 billion in 2026, a five-fold increase in just five years.

Metavers, already several thousand patents

No wonder tech giants are taking an interest in it, and according to a recent report compiled by Nikkei Asia and pollster Cyber Creative Institute, a total of 7,760 patents have been filed by the 20 most active companies on the subject.

Top 6 Metaverse Patent Holders

The Top 6 of these companies having filed the most patents since 2016 concerning the metaverse are as follows: • 1 LG Electronics • 2 Samsung Electronics • 3 Meta

• 4 Huawei

• 5 Microsoft • 6 Sony

Meta overtaken by LG and Samsung

We will notice a certain interest from Korean companies, knowing that LG was only eleventh in the ranking in 2015-2016. Samsung, on the other hand, focuses its patents on electronic components, rather than commercial products like VR headsets. Astonishing result for Meta, only in 3rd position while the company is the one that has put the metaverse on the front of the stage in recent months, investing billions in the subject.
