Smart Home devices, adoption on the upswing

The home is becoming more and more connected as homes become accustomed to smart home gadgets that make life easier.

According to a recent report by Parks Associates (via Advanced Television), 88% of American households have a high-speed internet connection. And on average, each household has thirteen connected devices, up from nine in 2016.

The word to Patrice Samuels, Senior Analyst at Parks Associates

Among these devices, Smart Home objects are one of the new categories present in homes and apartments, and their adoption has been climbing slowly but surely since 2014. In 2018, 14% of American households had at least three Smart Home devices, figure which rose to 23% at the end of 2020. “Connected devices benefit from a deep integration into the lifestyle of users, with convenience, comfort and peace of mind as the main arguments of adoption, explains Patrice Samuels, Senior Analyst at Parks Associates. He adds: As their familiarity with Smart Home products increases, consumers are looking for devices that target their specific needs, from lawn maintenance or irrigation to independent living and health monitoring ” .
