Siri AI, soon in French, but still not in France

Until now available only in English, the new Apple Siri AI assistant boosted by artificial intelligence is rolling out in new languages, including our good old French. A clue as to its upcoming availability with us? Well no.

À the occasion of the latest update 27.2 on iOS, iPadOS, macOS and others, the new Siri AI assistant now works in new languages: Turkish, Korean, Portuguese, Spanish and French. And while the last three might suggest that Siri AI is about to finally arrive in Europe, unfortunately that is still not the case.

Siri aïe aïe aïe

The reason -as a reminder- is the famous European Digital Markets Act (DMA) regulation, which requires Apple to open its system to third-party companies, whereas Apple is known for locking down its software as much as possible, citing the protection of users’ privacy. So it is out of the question for Apple to release its Siri AI if it is to hand over its manufacturing secrets.

Siri AI, a chatbot like any other

Nevertheless, when this administrative disagreement is resolved, Siri AI will be ready to listen to you in the language of Molière, and that is somewhat pleasing, isn’t it? Let us recall that in addition to contextual understanding of your screen and the use of your data for even more personalized responses, the new Siri AI benefits from its own application with which to converse by voice or in text, like other AI chatbots of the kind.
