Earlier last year, Simu Liu — notably known for his role as Shang-Chi in the Marvel universe — stated that he was in discussions to revive the feature-film adaptation project of the video game Sleeping Dogs. And after a long time without news, he reassures fans: the operation is progressing as it should.
Sleeping Dogs, Donnie Yen withdraws from the project
A sort of GTA in Hong Kong with some good fighting in it, Sleeping Dogs was released in 2012 on PS3, Xbox 360, and PC. Announced in 2017, its film adaptation was then being carried by none other than the great Donnie Yen. Sadly, news was scarce before the actor outright announced his withdrawal a few years later, despite his motivation.

“We are moving along very well: we have a director, a production company, and a real path forward,” Simu Liu said very recently on his X account. “We are simply finalizing the agreement with the video game studio right now, which is a true fan dream for me, because I love Square Enix. Your support gives us all the energy we need!”
So, good news. As for the director mentioned, it is Timo Tjahjanto, to whom we owe Nobody 2 and The Night Comes for Us, titles in which fighting is at the heart of the story.
