Yamaha RX300A: HDMI 2.1, HDR, 8K/60 and 4K/120££££
A major new feature compared to the RX-V385: the RX300A adopts HDMI 2.1 connectors (4 inputs/1 output), compatible with 8K/60 and 4K/120. ALLM, VRR, and QMS features are also included, ideal for gamers. The HDMI output is compatible with eARC/ARC for receiving an HD audio stream from the TV. On the HDR side, the RX300A supports HDR10+, Dolby Vision HDR, and HLG HDR, a notable improvement over the RX-V385, which was limited to HDR10 and HLG.
Yamaha RX300A: Bluetooth 5.3 multipoint and ease of use££££
Like the RX-V385, the RX300A focuses on simplicity, but modernizes its wireless connectivity with Bluetooth 5.3 multipoint, allowing you to connect two devices simultaneously and switch instantly between them. However, like its predecessor, it offers neither Wi-Fi, nor AirPlay, nor MusicCast. The four Scene buttons on the front panel still allow you to save custom configurations (source + audio settings), selectable with a single press. The Yamaha RX300A's connectivity remains true to the spirit of the RX-V385, with a simple and efficient layout, but benefits from a few adjustments. It features four HDMI inputs and one output, two RCA analog inputs, one optical input and one coaxial input, plus two LFE outputs and a headphone output. The front-panel USB port allows for audio file playback and firmware updates, while the FM tuner provides radio reception (still without AM). Plus five pairs of screw terminals. On the audio side, the Yamaha RX300A offers the brand's usual sound modes: Pure Direct, Straight, Movie, All Channel Stereo, 2 Channel Stereo, Music, and Night. Additional features include Extra Bass, Subwoofer Trim, Dialogue Level, and lip-sync, as well as an automatic room correction system using a microphone to adapt the sound to the room's acoustics.
Yamaha RX300A, meticulous construction and vibration reduction
The RX300A adopts the Anti-Resonance Technology (ART) Wedge system, a fifth central foot designed to reduce vibrations, a technology borrowed from higher-end models. Yamaha also highlights a large heat sink positioned above the HDMI circuits (see photo below) to ensure optimal stability when switching high-bandwidth signals.
