Goodbye Ultra HD 4K, Dolby Atmos and Dolby Vision HDR on Prime Video, unless you pay
17.03.2026 • 07h58
Guess what? The price of Prime Video's ad-free option is going up, and the "budget" option is losing Ultra HD 4K resolution.
In 2024, Prime Video delivered its first blow to Amazon Prime subscribers by integrating ad breaks unless they paid an additional €1.99. Amazon Prime Video: more expensive without ads and even more expensive to enjoy Ultra HD 4K and Dolby Atmos/Dolby Vision. Despite protests, the second blow is coming and has just been announced: subscribers will have to pay even more for the soon-to-be-named Amazon Prime Ultra Video option. And as bad news never comes alone, basic subscribers will lose the Ultra HD 4K resolution, Dolby Atmos, and Dolby Vision HDR they currently enjoy. Specifically, this change will take place on April 10th in the United States, where the Ultra subscription will cost €4.99 in addition to the Prime subscription (instead of €2.99). This price will include Dolby Atmos and Dolby Vision HDR. Expect the rest of the world, including France, to be affected shortly after, with the price likely to increase by an additional €4.99 per month in France.
