More foldable iPhones than expected

The very first foldable iPhone, likely expected in late 2026, is reportedly being produced in larger quantities than initially estimated.
According to the Korean media outlet ET News, Apple has ordered 22 million OLED displays from Samsung Display for the very first foldable iPhone, which all rumors predict will arrive at the end of 2026. In detail, these 22 million are divided into 11 million foldable displays and 11 million "normal" displays, destined for 11 million devices, since each of these iPhones is equipped with both screens. Given that Samsung is the exclusive supplier for this smartphone, Apple should therefore produce approximately 10 million units for the launch. Indeed, more components are always manufactured as a precaution, to account for potential defects during production. Apple is increasingly confident about its foldable iPhone. In any case, this figure means that Apple will produce more foldable iPhones than initially estimated. Approximately 30% more, since previous forecasts predicted an initial volume of between 6 and 8 million units. Perhaps this indicates that the company has greater confidence in the product's potential as we approach its anticipated release date, even though a particularly high retail price of around €2,500 is expected.
