Subwoofer: a new technological horizon for smartphones?

After screens and cameras, a new area of development is emerging for smartphones: audio equipment.
Smartphones are technological marvels, and with such beautiful screens, such fast processors, and high-quality cameras, it seems like technical limits have been reached and future developments will only be marginal or incremental. However, manufacturers are under constant pressure to offer ever-improving products, and the new avenue to explore could lie in the audio section of our closest companions, which has rarely been highlighted until now. This observation is inspired by the new Redmi K90 Pro Max from Xiaomi, which has just been released in China. It is, get this, the very first smartphone equipped with a subwoofer. Yes, yes! Xiaomi Redmi K90 Pro Max, 2.1 sound system. The device contains a 2.1 system tuned by Bose, consisting of two "super linear" speakers and an "extra-large" subwoofer. The relatively large components—considering the size of a smartphone—that make this feat possible are housed in the camera bump, a sign for Xiaomi that sound is now as important as image capture. It remains to be seen whether this new feature will win over the public and whether competitors will take inspiration from it for their future models.
