Just before the IFA 2025 Berlin trade show opened its doors last week, JBL presented to the world the latest version of its essential portable and party speaker, the Boombox 4.
New sound architecture for the JBL Boombox 4 portable speaker, which incorporates a third passive radiator, two 23 cm [abc]woofers[/abc] plus two 20 millimeter tweeters. The reproduction is supported by AI Sound Boost, an audio optimization technology that allows for more power while avoiding distortion. The total power output is therefore 105 W wired and 100 W on battery. JBL Boombox 4, main specifications ££££ On the practical side, we note a weight reduction of one kilo without sacrificing power, quite the contrary. Namely, compared to the Boombox 3, the JBL Boombox 4 provides 50% more power when used on battery. Incidentally, the latter is replaceable and the speaker offers up to 28 hours of battery life, extendable to 34 hours with Playtime Boost mode. Regarding sound modes, when Bass Boost is activated, the two famous JBL modes are still available: Deep Bass for rich and immersive bass, Punchy Bass for dynamic and rhythmic bass. And on this occasion, the JBL logos light up in white or orange for a very attractive visual effect. Back to the practical side with a more solid stand and IP68 certification, which makes the JBL Boombox 4 waterproof and dustproof.
JBL Boombox 4, Bluetooth 5.1 and Auracast££££ We also note the [abc]Bluetooth[/abc] 5.4 and [abc]Auracast[/abc] compatibility to instantly connect to other compatible JBL speakers, to form a stereo system (two speakers) or amplify the sound experience (beyond two). Finally, we appreciate wired listening for lossless digital audio via [abc]USB[/abc]-C. A word from Carsten Olesen, President of Consumer Audio at Harman££££ “The market is moving towards portable speakers with ever-increasing bass, and JBL has made this its specialty,” explains Carsten Olesen, President of Consumer Audio at Harman. “Finding the balance between powerful bass and impeccable audio quality is a delicate art. With exclusive technologies like Bass Boost and AI Sound Boost, the JBL Boombox 4 perfectly achieves this goal. It concentrates everything that fans love about JBL.” Available in three finishes, Midnight Black (black), Ocean Blue (blue), or Camouflage, from September 8. Recommended price: €499.99.
