James Cameron is still freaking out about AI

A fan of AI when it comes to special effects, the Terminator director still fears that this technology will spell the end of the world.

A director who loves to flirt with new technologies, James Cameron (Terminator, Titanic, Avatar, etc.) has never hidden his enthusiasm for the use of artificial intelligence to facilitate work in the field of special effects. However, when it comes to military applications, Cameron is far from reassured. He already spoke about it in 2023 and he recently did it again during an interview with Rolling Stone, mentioning Terminator, his 1984 film, which already dealt with the subject of AI taking control to eliminate humanity.

“I think there’s always a danger of a Terminator-style apocalypse, where you combine artificial intelligence with weapons systems, even to the level of nuclear weapons, nuclear defense systems, response, all of that,” explained the director. Because the theater of operations is so fast, the decision windows so short, that it would take a superintelligence to be able to process everything, and maybe we'll be smart enough to keep a human in the loop. But humans are fallible, and there have been many mistakes that have put us on the brink of international incidents that could lead to nuclear war."

In short, if you want to have a good day full of positivity, it's best not to get Cameron started on this subject...
