Jeff Daniels joins Bannerman, the new Shane Black series

Jeff Daniels (Newsroom) has just joined the cast of Bannerman, an adaptation of John R. Maxim's spy novels. First project resulting from the co-production agreement between AMC Studios and Netflix, Bannerman thus welcomes its first officially announced actor. But be careful, Jeff Daniels will not portray the main character.

The story follows Paul Bannerman, a formidable undercover agent who convinces a group of some of the world’s most dangerous assassins to hang up their weapons in an attempt to lead a normal existence in a residential suburb of Connecticut. But between old enemies, habits that are hard to break, a paranoid government and a particularly stubborn former cop, retirement may well turn out to be their most perilous mission.

Jeff Daniels will play that former cop, Raymond Lesko, a notoriously famous NYPD detective. Now employed as a security guard in a hotel, Lesko was fired from the police after avenging the murder of his former partner, whose memory continues to haunt him. He finds himself forced back into service when he discovers that his daughter, the only person in the world he truly cares about, is dating a man who may well be even more dangerous than he is.

All Shane Black in the upcoming Bannerman series

At the helm are filmmaker Shane Black (The Nice Guys, Play Dirty) and producer Craig Silverstein (The Old Man, Nikita). A first foray into serialized fiction for the director of Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, whose touch is already apparent from the pitch alone, with repentant killers, dark humor and damaged characters.

That said, we’re more than eager to discover the result, especially since Shane Black himself will direct the first two episodes and co-write the pilot with Craig Silverstein, who will also serve as showrunner. Bannerman will first air on AMC in the United States and Canada, before joining the Netflix catalog in those two countries, 90 days after the broadcast of the season finale.

In Australia, New Zealand and Spain, the two platforms will simultaneously offer each episode. In the rest of the world, including France, Netflix will have exclusive rights to the series.
