Cocteau, the Pope of Surrealism££££
Adapted from the tale for adults published in 1757 by Jeanne-Marie Leprince de Beaumont (an abridged version of the first written by another novelist, Gabrielle-Suzanne de Villeneuve), which would see dozens of adaptations, but of which Cocteau's version, the pope of French Surrealism, would forever remain the most striking, this vision of Beauty and the Beast is, among other things, famous for the mask worn by Jean Marais, which required 3 hours of work each day (not counting an hour for each claw).
A new setting to rediscover one of the great jewels of French cinema! This limited edition will feature unique packaging and include numerous bonus features and reproductions of original pieces: an unreleased documentary about the film, drawings by Jean Cocteau, the original booklet presenting the film, photos… The Cocteau event will also continue on stage with a film concert at the Théâtre du Châtelet on November 23 at 8 p.m., featuring the original music of Georges Auric, a close friend and collaborator of the poet-filmmaker throughout his career. The music has been re-recorded by the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France and the Chœur de Radio France under the direction of Frank Strobel. A vinyl edition of this new recording is also planned for spring 2027.
