iPhone Air 2, even thinner thanks to the foldable iPhone?

A screen technology expected to debut this year on the foldable iPhone could be used on the new iPhone Air, slated for 2027, to make it even thinner and increase its battery life.
While it was thought to be reserved for the 2027 iPhone XX, Color Filter on Encapsulation (COE) technology was expected to arrive as early as the end of this year on the foldable iPhone. The iPhone Air 2 screen equipped with Color Filter on Encapsulation technology? This is what the Korean media outlet The Elec reports, adding that the COE technology tested on this first foldable model will then be used on the iPhone Air 2, expected in early 2027 (or even earlier, it's unclear). The decision will be made in the third quarter of this year, according to industry sources cited by The Elec. As a reminder, COE involves removing the polarizing layer from the OLED panel, which currently prevents light from "bleeding" on its surface. It relies on a filter that reduces reflections and therefore makes the polarizing layer obsolete. Such a screen would be thinner, allow more light to filter through thanks to increased transparency, and help to increase battery life, given that the current polarizing layer darkens the screen in addition to consuming energy to operate.
