A hefty price tag for the iPhone 18 Pro?

The first iPhone processor built on a 2nm process, the A20, is expected to cost almost twice as much as its predecessor, likely impacting the price of the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max this fall.
According to the Chinese media outlet Economic Daily, the A20 processor in the iPhone 18 Pro/Max is expected to cost Apple $280, 87% more than the $150 price tag of the A19 in previous generations. The iPhone 18 series is expected to be more expensive, with the 2nm processor manufacturing process to blame. The reason is the new 2nm manufacturing process, a first for the series and therefore unproven, which is more technically demanding than the previous 3nm process. Historically, Apple has always been willing to pay more for a first generation of production, but this year it seems records are being broken. The soaring price of RAM is also a factor in this increase, and like many electronic devices this year, iPhones will be more expensive to produce. This rise in production costs could well be passed on to the final price for consumers.
