Foldable iPhone, cheaper to produce than expected?

Thanks to cheaper-than-expected key components, next year's foldable iPhone should prove cheaper for Apple to produce.

Expected to arrive in late 2026 alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone Air 2, Apple's first-ever foldable smartphone could cost less to produce than initially estimated.

Foldable iPhone, Foxconn lowers the price on the hinge component ££££

Indeed, Taiwanese analyst Ming-Chi Kuo reports that the device's hinge, a key component, would cost between $70 and $80, instead of the budgeted $100 to $120. This reduction is not attributed to the price of materials, but rather to "assembly optimization" and the industrial strategies of Apple's official assembler, Foxconn. A significant benefit, therefore, given that this type of smartphone is very expensive to produce.

It remains to be seen whether this suspected drop could be reflected in the device's selling price, or whether it will benefit Apple's margin. Knowing the brand, we already have a little idea about this...
