Tim Cook's father saved by Apple Watch

Even the family of Apple's CEO is not immune to the life-saving power of the Apple Watch.

On his latest trip to the UK, Apple CEO Tim Cook not only made friends with King Charles III, he also sat down for an interview on the food podcast Table Manners with Jessie and Lennie Ware.

Tim Cook Speaks££££

In between ribbing questions, the hosts asked Cook if he had ever received a health alert from his Apple Watch. Who knows, after the former Xbox boss and (almost) Steven Spielberg, Apple's smartwatch may have helped save another VIP... Answer: "Not for me, but my father, when he was alive, fell at home while he was living alone," Cook replied. "And the watch sends a notification to your family and emergency services if you fall, because it detects the fall using its accelerometer." She alerted the emergency services, who attended. He didn't answer the door, so they broke it down, and they were right to do so, because he was unconscious at the time."

Saved, Tim Cook's father must have started singing the praises of the life-saving gadget? "No," Cook explains, "he was actually more focused on the door. He was upset: 'They broke down my door!'" Thanks, son...
