Samsung S95D QD Oled 55''/65'' and 77'', bright peak at 3,000 nits

Many of you have asked us for a detailed presentation of the Samsung 2024 TV range. After our publications on the Samsung QN800D and Samsung QN900D Ultra HD 8K TV series, we continue our overview with the QD Oled Samsung S95D series, the most exclusive of the brand's Ultra HD 4K TV range.

A direct replacement for the QD Oled Samsung S95C series, the Samsung S95D benefits from the new generation of QD Oled panel presented by Samsung Display at the CES show in Las Vegas 2024 last January.

Samsung S95D, QD Oled third generation, 3,000 nits and Glare-Free processing££££

Three Samsung S95D references are on the menu, the Samsung TQ55S95D (55'', 140 cm), Samsung TQ65S95D (65 '', 165 cm) and Samsung TQ77S95D (77'', 196 cm). They all feature the new QD Oled panel announced to be 50% brighter than that of Samsung S95C 2023 TVs on the one hand, more energy efficient on the other hand, finally offering a double lifespan. This third generation QD Oled panel, associated with a graphite heat sink, therefore makes it possible to display a light peak at 3,000 nits, 300 nits for 100% white screens (APL 100%). Other major new features of the Samsung S95D diffusers are Pantone certification for perfect color accuracy and a new, incredibly effective anti-reflective coating called Glare-Free. A real thought trap.

Samsung S95D, zoom on the design££££

The design of the 2024 S95D series is still based on a remote One Connect box identical to that of the 2023 S95C. As usual now at Samsung, it can be “clipped” to the back of the TV, on the axis of the stand, or moved away from the screen for absolute discretion. In this configuration, only a relatively thin cable (similar to an antenna cable) connects the case and the screen for extreme freedom of placement. Stripped of some of the electronics and connections, the Samsung S95D TVs look great with a screen thickness of only 11 mm over the entire surface of the Oled panel. Good news for fans of wall mounting, the Samsung S95D TVs will give the impression of being literally placed on the wall. The thinner framing of the panel ends up giving a truly splendid overall appearance to these televisions, imbued with 'a beautiful impression of lightness.

Samsung S95D, main specifications££££

In terms of specifications, the QD Oled Ultra HD 4K Samsung S95D TVs integrate therefore a native 10-bit and 144 Hz Oled panel. They also benefit from the NQ4 AI Gen2 processor (Neural Quantum Processor 4K). As for the 2023 televisions, this mixes Machine Learning process and Deep Learning process. If in 2022 there were 24 Deep Learning modules at work for magnificent image quality, there are still 24 in 2024.

As a reminder, the Deep Learning process is based on a neural model, or without human intervention (unlike Machine Learning) in the learning of the processor. This decides alone the necessary developments in the image processing algorithms to find optimum quality starting from a degraded display.

There is the EyeComfort Mode function which, once the television is connected to the internet, subtly modifies the brightness and color temperature of the image depending on the time of day, for always optimal viewing comfort. The latter, for example, reduces the blue light emitted in the evening to promote sleep for sensitive people.

Samsung S95D, Quantum HDR Oled Pro££££

Concerning the image quality displayed on the screen, the self-emitting Samsung S95D TVs are capable of completely turning off each of (almost) 8.3 million pixels present. The black density is therefore perfect. In terms of brightness, QD Oled 2024 technology offers a very significant light peak, illustrated by the name Quantum HDR Oled Pro. On the HDR side, Samsung S95D TVs are HDR10, HDR10+, HDR10+ Adaptive and HDR HLG compatible.

Samsung S95D, Adaptive Sound Pro, AVA Pro, OTS+ and Dolby Atmos££££

The sound section is also in the spotlight on Samsung S95D TVs. The first concerns the OTS+ process. This has a total of eight speakers placed at the back of the screen (4.2.2 system) for a total power output of 70 watts. Of course, Dolby Atmos compatibility is in the program.

For the rest, we find the Q-Symphony function. The latter consists, always, in the presence of a Samsung Q-Series 2020/2021/2022/2023/2024 soundbar connected, to take advantage of the television speakers in addition to those of the soundbar to magnify the sound reproduction , its scale and its spatialization. The soundbar takes advantage of the television's significant processor resources to optimize calibration and sound reproduction. Namely, if the soundbar is connected wirelessly to the television (via Wi-Fi), the management of Dolby Atmos soundtracks is of course provided wirelessly too.

Development of Adaptive Sound+, the Adaptive Sound Pro function, still capable of adapting the TV's audio settings in real time depending on the image displayed, now takes into account the listening room. Otherwise, the AVA Pro (Active Voice Amplifier) function remains intended to cover new noise in the TV environment, automatically. For example that of a kettle or a vacuum cleaner which will be covered by an increase in volume managed directly by the TV. Don't panic, the TV lowers the sound, always automatically, when the noise stops.

Samsung S95D, Multiview function££££

Like the S95C models, the Samsung S95D Ultra HD 4K Oled TVs offer simultaneous on-screen display of two contents with the MultiView function through as many windows: the first with the signal from a TV channel or a source connected to the TV; the second with the screen of a user's smartphone or from a games console, or even the internet (see photo below). There are many display possibilities, from classic PIP to displaying two adjacent windows.

Good point, the HDMI 2.1 standard is required with VRR, Freesync Premium Pro, ALLM and HFR 4K/144 and eARC compatibility on the four inputs. And to activate Mirroring mode between a Samsung Galaxy smartphone and a Samsung S95D TV, using the Tap View function, simply touch the second with the first, and that's it.

Samsung S95D and Tizen 8, focus on profile management and interface customization££££

Also on the Samsung S95D TV program, the Tizen 8.0 operating system. Among the new features, profile management (associated with the accounts of the members of a household) allowing the television interface to be personalized according to each person's wishes, without forgetting content recommendations linked to the tastes of each person (see. photo below). On the screen appear three new tabs superimposed on the main image, For you, Direct and Apps. The first saves the last used source(s) and recommended content. The second provides access to live content and the EPG. The third is none other than the application store. Namely, in 2024, the recommendations concern audiovideo content but also video games (Gaming Hub) and works of art (Art Store).

Samsung S95D and Tizen 8, new Daily+ and Now+££££ menus

In the vertical navigation bar on the left of the interface, a new menu called Daily+ appears. This gives direct access to the SmartThings Dashboard (to easily and quickly connect and control Smart Home devices in the home), and to Workspace mode to easily connect to a remote PC or to Microsoft 365 in order to have a workstation. teleworking directly via the television.

0

For its part, the Now+ service displays generic widgets on the screen (weather, traffic, news, etc.) or the security camera(s), but also information related to the different members (account) of the household: birthdays, appointments, etc. Everything is of course accessible through voice command.

Samsung S95D, Game Bar 2024 more immersive££££

In 2024, the Game Bar 2024 on Samsung Smart TVs evolves for increased immersion of the player in the action. Thus, the TV automatically selected the appropriate audio-video channels depending on the nature of the game displayed: RPG, Sports, FPS, RTS. If in the presence of a football game, atmospheres are favored, with an FPS, the emphasis is placed on the sound details which could betray the presence or movement of an enemy. Likewise, the minimap is automatically detected and can be placed on the screen as desired.

1

Also present, the Game Bar and its 16/9, 21/9 or even 32/9 display modes (Super Ultra Wide Game View and Mini Map Zoom function, see our news Samsung 2022 Smart TVs are going digital PCs and consoles) for video game enthusiasts with the connection of a PC and Game Motion Plus mode. As a reminder, the latter (adapted to video games as its name suggests) is very interesting since it allows you to activate the TV motion compensation process with games while maintaining a fairly low Input Lag.

For the rest, new Cloud Gaming services have been added to the Samsung Gaming Hub, Luna and Bosteroids, and the most used games are now accessible directly from the TV home page. As a reminder, Samsung has just formalized the Designed for Samsung Gaming Hub label.

Samsung S95D and Tizen 8.0, Amazon Alexa and Bixby££££

In 2024, the Tizen 8.0 interface offers an IP TV application for all internet service providers allowing you to enjoy it directly from 'a Samsung Smart TV, thus eliminating the need for a TV decoder (see our Samsung Smart TV news 2018 to 2022, heading towards dematerialized TV boxes).

2

The Bixby voice assistant is still available, the same for Amazon Alexa but not Google Assistant (see our Samsung Smart TV news, Google Assistant soon to be unavailable...). And it is possible to easily switch from one to the other via the menu. Likewise, the Samsung S95D series is compatible with the AV1 codec. On the connectivity menu, we should mention the Wi-Fi 6e function (8K required), Bluetooth and AirPlay 2 compatibility plus numerous communication features or the possibility of working on these Microsoft documents via the Cloud on the TV screen.

3

Samsung S95D and Tizen 8.0, SmartThings IoT platform££££

Of course, the SmartThings function is still there. The group's IoT (Internet of Things) platform is compatible with Android/iOS and with several hundred devices from other brands (Arlo-type surveillance cameras, Amazon Echo or Google Home-type smart speakers, Philips Hue-type connected lights, connected lock…).

Samsung Smart TVs are thus capable of integrating into the most current interactive ecosystems with a major advantage, directly linked to their DNA, the possibility of displaying a lot of information on their screen: the person's face who has just rang the front door, the contents of the Samsung Family Hub refrigerator, notifications from the robot vacuum cleaner or even the washing machine when the cleaning or washing cycle is finished. The television thus becomes the preferred interface for accessing the functionalities offered by Smart Home equipment.

4

We can also cite the Expert Calibration functionality (see our CES 22 news > Neo QLED TV Samsung 2022, Intelligent Calibration via Samsung Galaxy or iPhone) and a remote control still solar but much more compact and capable, still in 2024, to be recharged by RF (radio frequency). Thus, the zappette takes advantage of your box's Wi-Fi to constantly recharge itself.
