Netflix ad option? 23 million subscribers and counting…

Netflix's Essential Ad-supported subscription option continues to attract new subscribers.

A quick reminder, in most countries, notably France, Netflix offers four subscription options: Essential with advertising (€5.99/month), Essential (€8.99), Standard (€13.49) and Premium (€17.99).

The first mentioned, , is the most recent. Introduced first in the USA at the end of 2022, then everywhere else during 2023, it was an immediate success and continues to attract new subscribers. Thus, on the occasion of the Variety Entertainment Summit event held at the CES show in Las Vegas 2024 at the Aria hotel, Amy Reinhard - president of advertising at Netflix - revealed the number of subscribers to this option : 23 million. That is good growth compared to the 15 million recorded in November 2023.

Essential offer with advertising, Netflix was right ££££

In the third quarter of 2023, the Essential option with advertising represented 30% of all new Netflix subscriptions (23% in July) in the 12 markets offering this option. Conclusion, Netflix was right to offer this new option and the vast majority of analysts were wrong. Likewise, the subscribers, apparently numerous to protest against this new offer on social networks, ultimately did not weigh very heavily in the face of the strong wave of consumers, old or new subscribers, to support it.

New figures will certainly be revealed on January 23 during the firm's next financial communication regarding its results for the fourth quarter.
