After making the rounds of rumors and then announced last October, the new PS5, with its detachable 4K Ultra HD Blu-Ray player, is now on sale since today, November 24, 2023. Please note that this model replaces the old one and will therefore be the only one available once stocks of the original PS5 are exhausted.
New PS5, less bulky and less heavy
As a reminder, the new PS5 is available in two versions - Standard Edition or Digital Edition - and it is less bulky than the original model (L x H x D: 358 × 96 × 216 mm), i.e. -30% in volume and -18% to -24% by weight depending on the model, Standard or Digital (3.2 kg and 2.6 kg respectively).
New scalable PS5
If the first always includes an optical drive capable of reading 4K Ultra HD discs (on the left in the photo below), on the second it is possible to later add the reader sold alone. Another development, the SSD hard drive now has a capacity of 1 TB (1,000 GB) compared to 825 GB currently. Finally, the cheeks of the new PS5 are now made up of four distinct parts, each removable. Indicative prices: €549.99 for the PS5 Standard Edition (with 4K Ultra HD Blu-Ray player), €449.99 for the PS5 Standard Edition. As for the 4K Ultra HD optical drive, intended to “transform” a PS5 Digital Edition console into a PS5 Standard Edition, it is available at 119.99 euros.
