Yamaha SR-B40A, new 2.1 Bluetooth and Dolby Atmos soundbar

In addition to the SR-B30A soundbar, the Japanese manufacturer Yamaha presented at the same time the SR-B40A, another 2.1 model but this time equipped with an external subwoofer.

Mounted to the wall or placed on a piece of furniture, the Yamaha SR-B40A soundbar has a sober elegance with only 68 mm in height so as not to obstruct the IR sensor of the television and thus hinder the usefulness of the remote control.

Yamaha SR-B40A, the features

Connected by a single cable to the television (optical or HDMI), the Yamaha SR-B40A soundbar offers a 3D Surround sound stage thanks to Dolby Atmos technology. Five sound rendering modes are on the menu: Clear Voice to optimize dialogue intelligibility, Stereo to magnify music reproduction (direct access to Spotify or Tidal), Standard for TV, Game and Film programs. Finally, we must also point out the Bass Extension mode to reinforce the impact of low frequencies.

Also features Bluetooth compatibility to enjoy music content stored on a suitable device (smartphone, tablet, computer, etc.) via streaming, or even broadcast sound from a compatible TV.

Yamaha SR-B40A, the connectors

The connection counts for its part, in addition to the optical and HDMI inputs (CEC and eARC), there is a USB-A port dedicated to Firmware updates.

Yamaha SR-B30A, the acoustic package

Technically, the Yamaha SR-B40A differs from the SR-B30A by the absence of an internal subwoofer, replaced by an external one. There are therefore only four full-range speakers with a 4.6 cm cone plus two 2.5 cm tweeters providing a total power of 50 watts. The external subwoofer is based on a 16 cm cone woofer, loaded with bass-reflex, delivering a total power of 100 watts. Which gives a total of 150 watts.

Namely, the Yamaha SR-B40A can be fully controlled using a smartphone or tablet after installing the free Android/iOS Sound Bar Remote app, or via the TV remote. Availability in black from September. Indicative price: 499 euros.
