Augmented/virtual reality market boosted by Apple?

By landing next year with the Vision Pro helmet, Apple could give a boost to the virtual reality and augmented reality market.

According to S&P Global Market Intelligence, the distribution of AR/VR (augmented reality/virtual reality) headsets worldwide is expected to increase from 7.9 million in 2022 to 21.4 million in 2027, an average annual growth rate by 22.1%. If the new Apple Vision Pro headset will not participate directly in this growth because of its high price, Apple's contribution will not be negligible in terms of buzz, which will benefit other manufacturers, Meta first.

Talk to Neil Barbour of S&P Market Intelligence

“The AR/VR headset segment has hit a relatively low ceiling as an extension of the gaming market after an initial surge in 2016/2017,” says S&P's Neil Barbour. But a wave of new headsets are expected to find new audiences emphasizing other popular applications like video conferencing, internet browsing and media playback. The proposition lies in the ability of these headsets to mix the portability of the smartphone with the space provided by a desk equipped with several monitors. This marketing message is put forward by Apple, with a strong reputation in emerging hardware segments”.
