Xiaomi Wireless AR Glass Discovery Edition, prototype augmented reality glasses

At the Mobile World Congress 2023 trade show currently being held in Barcelona, the Chinese manufacturer presented an advanced prototype of its augmented reality glasses.

After a concept unveiled in 2021, Xiaomi is taking advantage of the Mobile World Congress show to present the new prototype of its augmented reality glasses, named Xiaomi Wireless AR Glass Discovery Edition. In addition to augmented reality, they have a Blackout mode which blocks the display of the environment to switch to virtual reality mode.

Xiaomi Wireless AR Glass Discovery Edition, Main Specifications

Micro LED displays are backed by electrochromic lenses that adapt to ambient lighting, and deliver a PPD (pixel per degree) value of 60, which is above the human ability to distinguish pixels. Also note a brightness peak at 1,200 nits. The integrated processor is a Snapdragon XR2 Gen 1, for a latency of less than 50 ms, offering the possibility of connecting to Snapdragon Spaces compatible smartphones, such as the Xiaomi 13 or the OnePlus 11. Weighing only 126 grams, the glasses offer a gesture interaction, allowing the user to navigate the interface with the movement of the hands.

As advanced as it is, this model is only a prototype and it is not yet known when, and if, Xiaomi will enter the augmented reality market.
