Apple Watch, champion of connected watches

The smartwatch market continues to grow, with Apple still at the helm.

According to the latest figures from Counterpoint Research, the connected watch market is doing well, even very well. The distribution of connected watches worldwide in the second quarter of 2021 was 27% higher than that observed during the same period last year.

Apple is still the leader despite a small drop in market share (30% in 2020, 28% in 2021), due to growing competition from Chinese and Indian brands. The installed fleet of Apple Watch has passed the 100 million mark. Not bad…

Samsung and Garmin are making progress, Huawei is tumbling

In the Top 5, Samsung and Garmin show remarkable growth: 43% and 62% respectively between 2020 and 2021. Huawei is the only manufacturer in the Top 5 to observe a drop in distribution between the second quarters of 2020 and 2021 , showing that the fate of its connected watches is closely linked to that of its smartphones, also on the decline following the ban imposed by the Trump administration (and continued by the Biden government) on American companies to trade with the manufacturer Chinese.
