Despite the slump affecting the global TV market (see our news TV Market 2022, from decline to decline and Oled TV Market: 2022, first year of decline since 2013), there is a category of televisions that is doing well of the game, those equipped with a Mini LED backlight system. Proof of their commercial success, a 158% growth in deliveries observed in the third quarter of 2022.
According to a recent report by market research firm Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC), shipments of Mini LED TV panels in the third quarter of 2022 reached 5.1 million units. That's a growth of 158% compared to the same period last year and 30% compared to the previous quarter.
37 million Mini LED TVs in 2026? DSCC expects more and more TV brands, in the wake of Samsung Electronics with its Neo QLED models and LG Electronics with its QNEDs, to adopt Mini LED technology more widely. If this is already the case for TCL and Philips, 2022 will see several Mini LED TV series in the Hisense and Sony catalog. Thus, shipments of Mini LED TV panels are expected to increase from 18 million units this year to 37 million units in 2026.
