Smartphone market 2023: seven iPhones in the top places

For the very first time, the seven best-selling smartphones in the world all come from the Apple stable.

The Counterpoint Research firm recently published the ranking of the best-selling smartphones in the world for the year 2023, and for the first time the first seven places are all occupied by an iPhone model. It is Samsung which recovers the last three places, and the two rivals are the only ones to occupy this Top 10 since 2021.

In 2022, there were eight iPhones in this Top 10, but not in the first eight positions since Samsung's Galaxy A13 was fourth. Apple is therefore doing relatively better this year by taking all the first places. Together, the two giants have 20% of the market, a little better than the figure of 19% for 2022. First place for 2023 goes to the iPhone 14, half of the sales of which were made in the USA and China . Concerning the fourth quarter alone, the new iPhone 15s caused a tidal wave by taking the first three places, with the iPhone-15 Pro Max at the top.

For 2024, Counterpoint predicts a surge in Chinese manufacturers who should come to tickle Apple and Samsung in the next Top 10. In addition, there will only be 5G models, where this year we still find in the ranking the Samsung Galaxy A14 4G in tenth position.
