Smartphone: faced with the decline of the global market, the iPhone resists

After the first two quarters of the year in decline, the third quarter - for the third consecutive year - was difficult for smartphone manufacturers, with declining global sales.

According to figures from the Canalys firm, as for the first six months of the year, the global smartphone market is in decline in the third quarter of 2022, with 9% less distribution than in the same period last year . It is also the third consecutive year that this quarter has been in decline, and it is even the worst third quarter since 2014.

Several more quarters of decline to come according to Canalys

After a not crazy second quarter, the market should continue to be sluggish for the next six to nine months according to Canalys, even if a higher level of sales is expected for the end of the year period. However, it is too early to tell if the last quarter will experience an inflection point.

World smartphone market, the Top 5

On the manufacturer side, Samsung maintains its leading position with 22% market share, in particular thanks to major promotions. Second at 18%, Apple and the only Top 5 brand to experience positive growth thanks to continued strong demand for iPhones. The following positions are still occupied by the Chinese giants Xiaomi, Oppo and Vivo with respectively 14%, 10% and 9% market share respectively.
