The Blade Runner 2099 series is revealed in a new trailer that at least has the merit of giving us a glimpse of the menu: everything one could have expected is there. Bright, contemplative and rather beautiful images, for a philosophical, reflective atmosphere faithful to the spirit of the two previous films and to the mythology established by Ridley Scott and Denis Villeneuve. Even the music is similar.
The only downside is that it is frankly obscure. Lacking a better understanding of what it is about, one tells oneself that the bet could well pay off. In any case, the cast looks convincing and the whole thing is more than enough to pique our curiosity.
The Hunt for Hunter
Set 50 years after the events of Denis Villeneuve's Blade Runner 2049, the series depicts a radically transformed Los Angeles, where humanity has lost control. Following a revolt, the replicants have taken power. Now masters of the city, they have relegated humans to the status of second-class citizens. Michelle Yeoh plays Olwen, a replicant Blade Runner tasked with finding a group of missing rebel replicants, as she herself nears the end of her programmed lifespan.
Hunter Schafer plays Cora, a human on the run who has spent her entire life evading the Blade Runners, but who must now pass herself off as one of them. She joins Olwen in her search for the missing replicants.
Ridley Scott still in the shadows
If the series features entirely new characters, its central plot will be directly linked to the franchise's mythology.
Michael Green, co-writer of Blade Runner 2049, took part in developing the project, while Ridley Scott, director of the original Blade Runner, serves as executive producer and also contributed his advice to the production.
