The developer is currently working with Crystal Dynamics on Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, a complete remake of the very first Tomb Raider, released in 1996, with a planned release next February.
The game will reinvent the original episode in Unreal Engine 5, with fully modernized graphics, new skill trees, and a more developed storyline centered on Atlantis.
Several other Tomb Raider remakes in the pipeline
But the studio does not seem to be planning to stop there. According to the French media outlet PlayStationInside, which cites an internal company source, Flying Wild Hog would already have considered potential remakes of Tomb Raider II, released in 1997, and Tomb Raider III, released in 1998.
And this is even though the remake of the first installment has not yet been released. The launch of these new projects will, however, very likely depend on the sales of Legacy of Atlantis.
The coming years will be Lara Croft, or they will not be
This project is also completely separate from the next original installment in the saga, Tomb Raider: Catalyst, expected in 2028. It will be the most chronologically advanced adventure in the Lara Croft universe and will take place after the events of Tomb Raider: Underworld.
If you add to that the series currently being filmed at Amazon with Sophie Turner in the role of Lara Croft, one thing seems obvious: the coming years will be Lara Croft, or they will not be. And in the end, it is not just GTA VI in the small world of video games.
