To celebrate the 55th anniversary (!) of its legendary SL-1200 series, Technics announces a special anniversary vinyl turntable edition. Limited to only 12,000 units worldwide, this version with luxurious gold finishes pays tribute to the iconic instrument that shaped DJ culture and the history of electronic music.
Unveiled in grand style on August 18 through an exclusive DJ set by Japanese artist Yousuke Yukimatsu filmed atop Tokyo Tower, the new Technics SL-1200 55th Anniversary Edition is already making waves even before its global launch scheduled for September 2026. Namely, it made its first public appearance on August 20 at DMC DJs Day Poland in Warsaw.

The SL-1200 is not just a simple vinyl turntable, it is a true musical instrument that gave birth to hip-hop and club culture. To mark this 55th anniversary, Technics is offering a Collector’s Edition limited to 12,000 units worldwide. Each model will be fitted with an engraved commemorative badge bearing its own serial number, reinforcing its exclusive appeal.
On the aesthetic side, this version combines the turntable’s iconic silhouette with luxurious gold finishes. The S-shaped anodized aluminum tonearm, the platter rim, the strobe marks, the buttons and the tonearm base are all adorned in gold. Offered in seven distinct colors (gold, blue, red, black, green, white and gray), the device will come with a brand-new slipmat.

Under this festive design, the Technics SL-1200 55th Anniversary Edition is technologically based on the highly regarded and robust MK7 platform. It features the famous iron-coreless direct-drive motor (single-stator/single-rotor) coupled with digital control, ensuring rotation stability and instant startup that have made the series successful since its creation in 1972.
Turntablists will find a vertical pitch fader offering an adjustment range of up to +/-16%. The tonearm, for its part, ensures precise tracking of the groove, while its adjustable height makes it possible to accommodate a wide selection of cartridges. The cherry on top for scratch and turntablism enthusiasts: the integration of a Reverse Play mode to vastly expand creative possibilities in live performance.
