Xbox: the conversion of physical games into digital versions is coming to preserve your game library

The rumor was therefore true. The Redmond firm is thus rolling out an unprecedented feature allowing players to turn their physical games into true digital licenses.

 

Convert your Xbox One and Xbox Series discs Indeed, the disc format is living out its final months on PlayStation, and Xbox has cleverly avoided confirming that it will follow this path, preferring to prepare for this transition in its own way. As of August 31, members of the Xbox Insider program will be able to inaugurate this system for digitizing their disc games (Xbox One and Xbox Series) in order to obtain a digital copy that they retain strict “ownership” of. The game can then be used on any compatible system, and even via [abc]streaming[/abc]. Thus, even if future Xbox consoles are without a disc drive, players will keep their collection acquired over time.

 

Preserving players’ heritage and library “Over the past 25 years, players have invested in Xbox, and it is really they who have made Xbox so special,” explains Jason Ronald, Vice President of Xbox Experiences. “We are therefore focusing on how to honor that legacy as we look ahead to the next 25 years of Xbox. We see this initiative as a new step to ensure that your library is protected, that it can accompany you as technologies and formats evolve. We will also continue to invest in game preservation and add new features, so that your library keeps growing alongside technological advances”?

 

The feature will launch with “thousands” of games, and more will be added gradually, even though it is not yet known whether original Xbox and Xbox 360 games will be included.
