The series will follow Lee Crane (Daisy Ridley), a brilliant oceanographer recruited by a top-secret government program after the death of her twin sister during an expedition in the Arctic. A starting point that strongly smells of déjà vu, but the rest could hold some surprises.
By the director of WandaVision
At the heart of the plot is the USS Seaview, a retrofuturistic submarine discovered trapped in the ice, covered in mysterious symbols and which, curiously, only activates in Lee’s presence. Placed in command of it, the young woman must lead perilous missions to contain unknown forces threatening our world, while dealing with government officials with dubious intentions. Her explorations will lead her in the footsteps of a erased chapter of human history and the mythical city of Atlantis.
Journey to the Bottom of the Sea, on Paramount+
Also an executive producer, Daisy Ridley will reunite with Akiva Goldsman (Star Trek: Strange New Worlds), who is handling the writing, while Matt Shakman (WandaVision) will direct.
Currently in development, the project is produced by Legendary Television with the rights holders of Irwin Allen, creator of the film The City Beneath the Sea (1961) and the cult series Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea, broadcast on ABC from 1964.
