Yamaha WXA-70A: compact network amplifier overequipped with HDMI eARC and MusicCast

Japanese manufacturer Yamaha lifts the veil on the WXA-70A, a new connected stereo amplifier in a compact format designed for modern interiors. Under its robust aluminum chassis measuring only 22 cm wide, it packs 2 x 105 W Class D amplification, a cutting-edge ESS Sabre converter, and the entire MusicCast streaming ecosystem, all complemented by an HDMI eARC connection and a subwoofer output.

With the WXA-70A, Yamaha promises to deliver the power and sound quality of a large-format [abc]Hi-Fi[/abc] system in a device with particularly compact dimensions (220 x 73 x 267 mm for 2.6 kg). To accompany this launch, the manufacturer is also adapting this architecture in the form of a network preamplifier/player called the WXC-70A, intended to enhance an existing installation.

Yamaha WXA-70A, reinforced chassis, Class D (2 x 105 W) and ESS Sabre DAC Designed to fit elegantly into contemporary living spaces, the WXA-70A features a rigid aluminum chassis with a matte anodized finish and a central stiffening bar to contain unwanted vibrations. Inside, Yamaha relies on Class D amplification announced as robust. It is capable of delivering 2 x 55 W into 8 ohms (20 Hz-20 kHz, 0.06% THD) and rises to 2 x 105 W into 4 ohms.

Digital processing is handled by an audiophile ESS Sabre ES9039Q2M DAC. The latter is supported by the proprietary D.O.P.G. technology (DAC on Pure Ground), which guarantees an exceptionally clean ground environment to preserve the nuances of analog signals. The manufacturer also integrates ASRC processing (clock reconstruction) tasked with drastically reducing jitter ([abc]jitter[/abc]) before conversion, thereby improving instrument separation. Many [abc]Hi-Res Audio[/abc] formats are supported, including [abc]DSD[/abc], [abc]Flac[/abc], [abc]Alac[/abc], [abc]Wav[/abc] and [abc]AIFF[/abc].

Yamaha WXA-70A, YPAO R.S.C. acoustic calibration and HDMI eARC A direct legacy of the brand's Home Cinema amplifiers, the WXA-70A incorporates YPAO acoustic optimization technology (Yamaha Parametric room Acoustic Optimizer), here in an advanced version integrating reflection control (R.S.C.), a parametric equalizer (PEQ) and the YPAO Volume module. Thanks to the supplied microphone, the device analyzes the room and automatically adjusts the sound output to compensate for any shortcomings in the listening environment.

The device also bridges the video world by integrating an [abc]HDMI[/abc] [abc]eARC[/abc]/ARC input, allowing audio to be retrieved from the television with simplified volume management. A Dialogue Level function is included to enhance voice intelligibility. On the connectivity side, there is a stereo [abc]RCA[/abc] input (compatible with turntables or [abc]CD audio[/abc]), an [abc]optical[/abc] input, a [abc]USB[/abc]-A port for local file playback, and a Subwoofer output.

Yamaha WXA-70A, MusicCast multiroom and home automation integration A true connected hub, the amplifier is built around Yamaha's MusicCast ecosystem, controllable from a dedicated mobile app for seamless multiroom management. [abc]streaming[/abc] is widely covered with support for [abc]AirPlay 2[/abc], [abc]Chromecast (intégré)[/abc], Spotify Connect, Tidal Connect, Qobuz Connect and [abc]webradios[/abc]. Audiophiles will also appreciate Roon Ready certification. [abc]Bluetooth[/abc] (SBC/AAC) is also integrated.

Finally, the WXA-70A is aimed at installers (Custom Install) by offering compatibility with the Control4 home automation platform, configuration via a web interface, a Remote ([abc]IR[/abc]) input and a 12V [abc]Trigger[/abc] output.

Availability of the Yamaha WXA-70A announced for fall 2026. Indicative price: 1,399 euros.
