During the first Robot Olympics in 2025 (thanks China), one of Unitree’s specimens had reached a top speed of 4.78 meters per second (that is, 17 km/h). One year later, the Chinese company’s new model now reaches 12.66 meters per second, or 45 km/h, which is above the 12.2 meters per second of world record holder Usain Bolt over 100 meters.
A Superman model capable of leaping two meters high
In other words, don’t hope to outrun this machine when it starts chasing you, for a game of tag. And if that weren’t enough, this model called Superman can also leap more than two meters high (see video, but the robot reached 3.48 m tonight). What’s more, it only took Unitree three months to build the robot, and the company assures that it will keep improving in the months to come.
Tiangong Ultra comes out on top at the World Humanoid Robot Games
In any case, it is ready for the second edition of the World Humanoid Robot Games, which are taking place in China from August 22 to 28. And if Usain Bolt’s record was indeed beaten there, it was by a robot named Tiangong Ultra, made by competitor Beijing Humanoid Robot Innovation Center. As a reminder, Unitree had dominated the first Games by winning four gold medals in the 400 m, 1,500 m, 100 m hurdles, and 4 x 100 meter relay. First step, sport, before world conquest?
