MartinLogan Depth 215, the undisputed master of the 20-30 Hz range
To drive these two immense drivers with authority, the Depth 215 relies on a muscular structure based on a dual Class D amplifier delivering a colossal 2,200 W RMS of power (up to 4,400 W peak). Benefiting from a generous internal volume, it drops to 18 Hz (±3 dB) with disconcerting ease and an almost negligible sense of effort. A true infrabass machine, it reproduces the critical 20-30 Hz range with phenomenal authority and solidity, ideal for Home Cinema.
To control this excess of energy with minimal distortion, the woofers use the new tri-layer Carbon Aerocore cone (ultra-rigid carbon fiber, ultra-light structural PMI foam for polymethacrylimide, a very high-tech synthetic polymer that comes in the form of a rigid foam used to create so-called “sandwich structure” composite materials) and damping fiberglass. The driver design goes even further with a cast aluminum chassis, triple venting (under the spider, the coil and the core), and a dual copper demodulation ring. The electronics, for its part, rely on an extremely powerful 64-bit [abc]DSP[/abc] Vojtko processor (500 MHz) compatible with the reference ARC Genesis room correction system (the calibration microphone is included).
MartinLogan Depth 215, invisible cooling and hidden touch interface
In order to preserve a monolithic aesthetic worthy of its status, the engineers completely redesigned the back of the subwoofer. The amplifiers and the complete connectivity ([abc]XLR[/abc], [abc]RCA[/abc], high level, wireless) are hidden away (see photo below).
Cooling is done silently by convection thanks to superb extruded aluminum profiles acting as heat sinks (see photo above). At the front, a simple press beneath the backlit MartinLogan logo reveals a LED touch panel grouping all control functions together (see photo below), also accessible remotely via the MartinLogan Control Bluetooth smartphone app.
Availability announced for the end of August, in Gloss Black finish (lacquered black). Indicative price: 8,580 euros.
