Some fondly remember a little brother, son, or daughter begging you to skip a level because it's too hard. Perhaps you've even been that child yourself, desperately needing video game assistance. Is being "ghosted" actually progress? Well, all that's about to change, and you can thank AI for its contribution to the dehumanization of our relationships. Joking aside, Sony filed a patent in 2024 (recently published) called "AI-Generated Ghost Player," describing an algorithmic assistant that can intervene mid-game when the player needs it. Like a similar project from Microsoft, this "ghost" gives you advice on a difficult section, but it can go even further by taking complete control and literally playing for you. No more calling your older brother or dad, then. Bring on tomorrow!
