Sam Sung, he feared being fired by Apple

His name was Sung -Sam Sung- and he worked for Apple. Today he tells his story.

In 2012, an Apple Store employee briefly shone on social media because of his name: Sam Sung. More than ten years later, he looks back on this period of his life in an interview with Business Insider.

My name is Sung, Sam Sung…££££

It all started in an Apple Store in Glasgow, Scotland, where his name made his colleagues smile, but nothing more. Then he continued his career in an Apple store in Vancouver when his business card ended up on the Reddit forum one day and set the internet ablaze. A Sam Sung who works for his “rival” Apple, obviously it’s funny. Informed of this buzz, then questioned by his employer about it, Sam began to fear for his job.

The word to Sam Sung, who disappeared…££££

“I was so scared, I just wanted to be discreet to stay employed,” he explains. After being approached by a journalist at his workplace, Apple took away his business cards and asked his colleagues not to identify him by name. Sung pretended to be someone else, but the joke gradually petered out. He finally left Apple in 2013 to pursue other professional adventures, and in 2014 he even sold his old business cards to benefit charity. Today, Sam Sung is sadly no longer with us, having changed his name to Sam Struan. "I adopted a new name because I didn't want my name to be a joke," Sam explains. A decision tinged with regret, however: "I don't know if I would have done it if that viral moment hadn't happened, but I wish I could tell my past self to take it with humor. To not stress about my job, because everything was going well."
