IFA 25 > XGimi Horizon 20, 3,200 lumens triple RGB laser projector

The manufacturer XGimi is taking advantage of the IFA Berlin 2025 trade fair to present its new Horizon series of home cinema video projectors, composed of three references, the Xgimi Horizon 20, Xgimi Horizon 20 Pro and Xgimi Horizon 20 Max. Presentation of the first named before returning to the other two in separate news items.

The new Horizon 20 references from Xgimi have a design very similar to that of the previous Horizon range. The same aesthetic vein still highlights a cubic shape and a tilting and swiveling swing to orient the video projector at will. Good news, after discussion with Xgimi engineers, some shortcomings of the previous Horizon range have been fortunately corrected. For example, the possibility of calibrating all Image modes as desired with differentiated saving of the parameters for each of them (previously common saving). Similarly, a D65 triple laser calibrated mode should normally be available, in order to eliminate Greenish Tint (on the principle of AWP mode calibration, Alternative White Point, for the White Oled screens that we use in our test benches).

Xgimi Horizon 20, ISA functionality££££

Just like their predecessors, the Xgimi Horizon 20 model incorporates advanced ergonomics presented under the label ISA (Intelligent Screen Adaption). The latter allows for keystone adjustment and automatic focus, in addition to automatic optimum horizontal alignment and automatic adjustment of the screen size in the event of a parasitic obstacle on the image (to perfectly adapt the image to the screen size for example or to avoid a wall light). It is also worth mentioning an automatic stop of the projection if a person (typically a child) passes in front of the projector lens in order to protect the eyes. Namely, the integrated support allows a vertical adjustment of up to 135° and a horizontal rotation of 360 degrees.

Xgimi Horizon 20, main specifications££££

The Xgimi Horizon features a triple RGB laser with 20 laser chips. The multiplication of these chips, for each of the colors of the triple laser, is intended to control (understand reduce as much as possible) the phenomena of Speckle (display of bright glitter) and Fringing (chromatic aberrations that appear in contrasting areas of the image or on the contours of objects) inherent in laser technology.

For the rest, the Xgimi Horizon 20 is therefore structured from a 0.47" [abc]DMD[/abc] chip (1,920 x 1,080 pixels) with XPR4 algorithm to display [abc]Ultra HD[/abc] [abc]4K[/abc] definition. The triple laser [abc]RGB[/abc] light source (lifespan 25,000 hours) displays a brightness of 3,200 lumens, a native contrast of 1,600:1 (10,000:1 via the DBLE process for Dynamic Black Level Enhancement and 1,000,000:1 in dynamic contrast) and 110% coverage of the Rec.2020 gamut (more or less what the human eye sees). Namely, Xgimi guarantees for its Horizon 20 a careful calibration out of the box with a Delta E < 0.8 in Adobe RGB, Rec.709, DCI-P3 or Rec.2020.

We also note the compatibility [abc]HDR Dolby Vision[/abc], HDR10+/HDR10, 3D support (Frame Packing, Side by Side and Top & Bottom), the certifications [abc]ISF[/abc], Imax Enhanced and Filmmaker, a Dynamic Tone Mapping process, a [abc]Lens Shift[/abc] vertical/horizontal (±120/±45%), and a projection ratio of 1.2-1.5:1 (optical zoom 1.25x). The maximum image size is announced for 300" (762 cm) maximum.

Xgimi Horizon 20: connectors, connectivity and sound section££££

In terms of connectivity, among other things, there is an [abc]HDMI[/abc] 2.1 ([abc]eARC[/abc]) and an HDMI 2.0 input, an [abc]optical[/abc] output and two [abc]USB[/abc]-A ports (one of which is 3.0) and a 3.5 mm headphone output. The [abc]ALLM[/abc] and [abc]VRR[/abc] functions are also present. In terms of connectivity, [abc]Wi-Fi[/abc] 6, [abc]Bluetooth[/abc] 5.2 and [abc]Chromecast (integrated)[/abc] are included.

For the sound section, signed Harman Kardon, the Xgimi Horizon 20 delivers a total power of 2 x 12 W and ensures DTS Virtual:X compatibility.

Xgimi Horizon 20, Google TV££££

The Xgimi Horizon 20 video projector includes the Google TV Smart TV function for easy access to all (!) [abc]streaming[/abc] platforms (Netflix, Prime Video, YouTube…). Logically, the Google Assistant voice assistant is available. Everything is set to music by a MediaTek MT9618 processor, supported by 4 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage.

Xgimi Horizon 20, ideal for video games ££££

Lastly, video game enthusiasts are not forgotten with an Input Lag of 3 ms in [abc]2 160p[/abc]/60, 2.2 ms in 1 080p/120 Hz and 1 ms in 1 080p/240 hertz. A Black Equalizer mode is offered, to open up dark scenes in games and see enemies or hidden objects, the same for the Virtual Crosshair mode (crosshair on the screen) very useful in FPS games for example. Finally, there are also Sport, FPS, RTS, RPG and standard modes of course. Plus an Assassin's Creed mode to accompany the partnership between Xgimi and Ubisoft on the game Assassin's Creed Shadows.

Availability announced for October. Indicative price: 1,699 euros.
