While previous rumors suggested a new version of the Apple TV media box would arrive before the end of the year, we recently learned more about its power via software leaks unearthed by macrumors.
Next Apple TV 4K, at the level of the PS4 and Xbox££££
The device would thus have an A17 Pro chip, the one in the iPhone 15 Pro from 2023. For comparison, the current Apple TV 4K released in 2022 is equipped with the A15 Bionic. As a reminder, the A17 Pro paved the way for "triple A" games on iPhone, making it possible to compete with big video games on home consoles by including the Ray Tracing rendering function. Displaying a power of 2.2 teraflops, the processor can boast of being faster than those of the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One S (but less than that of the very recent Nintendo Switch 2). The A17 Pro is even comparable under certain conditions to the PlayStation 5's processor.
This would therefore be a notable update for the Apple TV 4K, which would make the video game experience more fluid and enjoyable, even if that is not its primary function. This new processor would also allow Apple Intelligence to run, should Apple ever want to use AI in another of its devices.
