The Apple Pencil that works on all surfaces

Until now limited to the iPad screen, Apple's stylus could one day work on the screens of other devices, and even on any flat surface.

Imagine a stylus that doesn't require a dedicated peripheral like a graphics tablet or an iPad, and whose writing movements can be detected and transmitted to an electronic device, regardless of the surface, for example, this table or desk that everyone has.

That's essentially what Apple has in mind, as evidenced by this patent recently granted to the manufacturer and simply named Input device with optical sensors. To summarize, all the sensors are included in the stylus, and the presence of a touch screen or a dedicated surface is no longer necessary. You can then point the device at a simple table, "draw" on it, and your movements are faithfully reproduced on the screen of a computer or tablet, connected wirelessly.

The stylus could thus work on any Apple device, the patent mentioning the iPad, the MacBook Pro but also… the Apple Watch. When we know that Apple already had plans for a technology to “capture the colors of life” with a stylus, we imagine an interesting future for the artists of tomorrow.
