AI in Netflix productions, here we go

The Netflix series The Eternaut is the first to leverage AI to facilitate its production, and certainly not the last.

On the occasion of the announcement of its latest results for the second quarter of 2025 (11 billion in revenue, or 16% better than last year at the same period), Netflix announced the use for the first time of artificial intelligence tools in one of its productions.

An event that will soon be commonplace but which is a landmark in a context where Hollywood artists are in full transition to integrate this new way of working, still criticized as "job stealer".

More specifically, it is the Argentinian science fiction series The Eternaut which is concerned, AI having been used in a special effects sequence "produced 10 times faster than would have been possible with traditional VFX tools and processes", explained Ted Sarandos, co-CEO of Netflix.

And to add: "We remain convinced that artificial intelligence represents an incredible opportunity to help creators make better films and series, not just at a lower cost", reiterating a previous statement about increasing quality thanks to AI, rather than reducing costs.

But hey, a process ten times faster in the field of special effects is naturally less expensive, something Sarandos makes no secret of: "The cost [of special effects without AI] simply would not have been feasible for a series with this budget."
