Barely has the acquisition of Jony Ive's start-up by OpenAI been announced, and already the indiscretions from Asia are starting to arrive on the product centered on artificial intelligence resulting from this high-flying association.
A little context first, recalling that OpenAI is a major player in AI (notably with its conversational agent ChatGPT) and that Jony Ive is a key designer formerly at Apple and co-creator of the iPhone, before leaving the company in 2019 to start his own design company.
A prototype spotted in Asia…££££
The rumor now, which comes to us from the often reliable Ming-Chi Kuo, a Taiwanese analyst always up to date on what is happening on the Asian production lines of the world's major manufacturers, including Apple. According to him, OpenAI's product already exists in prototype form, a little larger than the AI Pin and with an elegance comparable to the iPod Shuffle. The product could be worn around the neck, has cameras and microphones to analyze the environment, but remains without a screen to work with a smartphone or computer to harness its power and screen. Large-scale production is planned for 2027, for a release that year at the earliest.
