Composed of 8 episodes, the series created by Donald Glover (Swarm, Atlanta) and Francesca Sloane (Atlanta, Fargo) is a reinterpretation of the 2005 film with Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. It stars Donald Glover as John Smith and Maya Erskine (PEN15) as Jane Smith.
Marriage or spying?
It all begins when two lonely strangers are hired by a mysterious spy agency that offers them a glorious life of espionage, wealth, world travel and a dream apartment in Manhattan. The problem? An arranged marriage with new identities as John and Jane Smith. Now married, John and Jane execute a high-risk mission every week while facing a new milestone in their relationship. Their cover story becomes even more complex when they have real feelings for each other.
The film, which marked the meeting on stage as well as in the city of Branjelina, was a subtle mixture of action, comedy and glamour. The series seems to take up the same credo with a touch of well-supported action. Note that Parker Posey, Wagner Moura, Michaela Coel, John Turturro and Paul Dano are also part of the cast.
