“All-glass” iPhone, Apple’s next shock

Supposed to be released in 2027 to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the iPhone, the "all-glass" model with a wraparound screen is still in development at Apple.

If the 10th anniversary of the iPhone was marked by notable innovations on the iPhone X model, notably the edge-to-edge [abc]Oled[/abc] screen and the disappearance of the Home button in favor of Face ID facial recognition, Apple also wants to mark the 20th anniversary of its star product, normally called iPhone 19 (but knowing Apple, it will certainly be iPhone XX).

For a while now, rumors and patents have been suggesting a particular model with a wraparound screen and all glass (which will fit with the new iOS 26 interface). Similarly, another recently filed patent confirms that the project is still underway. The document describes a device whose six sides are made of glass, composed of two glass plates - one on the front, the other on the back - fixed to each other. The front folds subtly at the edges, forming an elegant curve thanks to areas of varying thickness.

The touchscreen wraps around the device and can therefore be touched, manipulated, and observed on both sides, as well as the edges. Note the discreet and very small openings to operate the microphones and speakers. A dream device then, and even if the technology does not seem ready to make it a reality yet, we are counting on Apple to get as close as possible when 2027 arrives.
