Bowers & Wilkins Serie 700 S3, closer and closer to the Serie 800…

A look back at the Bowers & Wilkins Serie 700 S3 speaker series presented by the British manufacturer last fall for a detailed presentation of the references. We start with the B&W 702 S3, B&W 703 S3 and B&W 704 S3, three floor-standing speakers, before returning later to the other models.

The Bowers & Wilkins Serie 700 S3 speaker series, as a whole, benefits from multiple developments. For example, narrower cabinets and fronts with curved lines (to reduce edge effects).

B&W 702 S3, B&W 703 S3 and B&W 704 S3, three floor-standing speakers!!! ! The columns accommodate midrange and woofer speakers equipped with an aluminum chassis. The new FST Continuum membrane medium is equipped with a unique 3D printed spider. All separated from the formwork. Likewise, the column models are now decoupled from the ground via a solid aluminum base and the tweeter, in On-Top configuration on the 702 S3 (see photo above), i.e. decoupled from the speaker, is also new : elongated aluminum block to reduce distortion for greater speed and double fixation (compared to only one). The dome is still made of carbon.

The boomer, also new, benefits from the latest advances in the Aerofoil membrane (fly layer in the middle of two layers of cellulose). Finally, B&W has selected more efficient filters, with specific bypass capacitors from Mundorf, for its Series 700 speakers. As you can see, these are numerous borrowings from the 800 series. The rest of the technical characteristics of the B&W 702 S3 , B&W 703 S3 (see photo above) and B&W 704 S3 (see photo below) can be discovered in detail below.
