iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, attack on the titans

Apple recently presented its new iPhone 15 range. Spotlight on the premium iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max versions, significantly cheaper than last year's models, an event rare enough to be highlighted.

At first glance, the iPhone 15 Pro looks a lot like the predecessors 14 Pro, in particular with the absence of the notch which still makes room for two dynamic perforations - one circular, the other oval - for the front sensors.

iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, Dynamic Island always

Aware of the limited aesthetics of this approach, Apple had camouflaged the misery with a concept called Dynamic Island, which we still find here. In summary, the software part of the smartphone changes the size of the black frame around the sensors according to needs: notifications, alerts, navigation interface, etc. As a result, the perforations become more discreet, and the aesthetic handicap is transformed into ergonomic functionality. Clever.

iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, the titanium material

A few notable additions this year though, starting with the new titanium frame with brushed finish, which replaces the stainless steel that has been around for a while now. Advantages of this material: greater strength, greater resistance to scratches and fingerprints, and reduced weight, making these iPhone 15s the lightest Pro models ever marketed.

iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, USB-C port

Special mention also for the disappearance of the proprietary Lightning port, in favor of the USB-C standard imposed by European legislation. USB 3 compatible, it allows file transfer speeds announced by the manufacturer as 20x higher than the previous model. Another development, the ringer/silent switch is now a new Action button capable of evolving to access various customizable functions such as the camera, the flashlight, silent mode, etc.

iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, the screens

In terms of functionality, we also find the Always on screen. Thanks to the refresh rate capable of going down to 1 Hz, the lock screen always remains displayed without impacting battery life (brightness of 1 nit), with useful information always accessible such as time, date, and widgets of your choice (calendar, weather, etc.). To return to the screen of these new smartphones, it is an Oled Super Retina .5 cm) on the iPhone 15 Pro. The latter displays a resolution of 2,556 x 1,179 pixels (460 ppi) in 19.5/9 format with support for HDR10, HDR HLG and HDR Dolby Vision technologies, and a bright peak of 2,000 nits. The screen of the iPhone 15 Pro Max benefits from a resolution of 2,796 x 1,290 pixels (460 ppi) in 19.5/9 format with support for HDR10, HDR HLG and HDR Dolby Vision and again, a light peak of 2,000 nits.

iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, processor and triple photo/video sensor

The devices are powered by the new Hexa Core A17 Bionic processor engraved in 3 nanometers. This chip is supported by a six-core Apple graphics processor. There are three photo/video sensors: 48 Mpxls main lens (aperture ƒ/1, 78) + 12 Mpxls ultra wide-angle (ƒ/2.2 aperture) + 12 Mpxls telephoto lens (ƒ/2.8 aperture). This all-new 120mm telephoto lens offers up to 5x optical zoom, but only for the iPhone 15 Pro Max (3x for the Pro).

Note in passing, the possibility of saving images in ProRaw format, which takes up space but allows maximum information to be retained for detailed editing possibilities. For its part, the selfie camera is also 12 Mpxls (f/1.9, 23 mm). On the video side, you can record up to Ultra HD 4K at 60 fps (limited to 60 fps on iPhone 14 Pro/Pro Max) or 1080p at 240 fps, 2160p up to 60 fps. s or 1080p up to 120 fps on the selfie sensor. Interesting new feature for videographers: the ability to capture sequences to save them in real time on an external storage device. Otherwise, always present, stabilization for Action mode, in order to film while moving at high speed, without shaking.

iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, first aid tools

We of course find the accident detection function, in particular car crashes, introduced on the iPhone 14. The smartphone's sensors make it possible to detect if they have been shaken as in an accident and automatically suggest calling rescue. Along the same lines, it is still possible to make emergency calls via satellite, perfect if you find yourself stranded in the wilderness.
