Yamaha WXC-70A: compact Hi-Fi network player and preamp with HDMI eARC and ESS Sabre DAC

After unveiling its connected amplifier WXA-70A (see our news item Yamaha WXA-70A: compact network amplifier overequipped with HDMI eARC and MusicCast), Yamaha is adapting its high-end architecture into a source/preamplifier version called the WXC-70A. Designed to modernize any existing Hi-Fi system, this audiophile network player concentrates an ESS Sabre ES9039Q2M DAC, an HDMI eARC input, YPAO acoustic calibration, and the entire MusicCast ecosystem in an ultra-compact format.

A true bridge between traditional [abc]Hi-Fi[/abc] and modern [abc]streaming[/abc], the Yamaha WXC-70A adopts the half-size format of its amplified sibling (only 22 cm wide, 7.3 cm high and 26.7 cm deep, with a weight on the scale of 1.9 kg). Designed to be inserted upstream of a power amplifier, an integrated amp or a pair of active speakers, it can operate either in simple network player mode (Player) or as a full preamplifier with direct volume control.

Yamaha WXC-70A, reinforced aluminum chassis and ESS Sabre ES9039Q2M DAC The WXC-70A inherits the manufacturing standards of the brand’s audiophile electronics. It is based on a robust aluminum enclosure with a matte anodized finish, fitted with a central stiffening bar and damping materials to eliminate unwanted resonances.

Digital-to-analog conversion is handled by the high-end ESS Sabre ES9039Q2M chip. It is accompanied by the exclusive D.O.P.G. (DAC on Pure Ground) design, which isolates the ground of delicate analog circuits to preserve micro-details, as well as an internal [abc]DSP[/abc] and an ASRC clock reconstruction circuit to eliminate jitter ([abc]jitter[/abc]). On the decoding side, the device supports high-resolution streams [abc]DSD[/abc], [abc]Flac[/abc], [abc]Alac[/abc], [abc]Wav[/abc] and [abc]AIFF[/abc], in addition to [abc]MP3[/abc], [abc]WMA[/abc] and [abc]AAC[/abc] formats.

Yamaha WXC-70A, YPAO automatic calibration and HDMI eARC connectivity A major strength of this new generation, the WXC-70A integrates the YPAO acoustic equalization system (with R.S.C., PEQ and YPAO Volume functions). Using the supplied measurement microphone, the device analyzes the acoustic behavior of the listening room to automatically correct frequency-response irregularities and early reflections.

Designed as the living room’s nerve center, the “streamer” also includes an [abc]HDMI[/abc] [abc]eARC[/abc]/ARC input. It lets you retrieve the TV’s audio stream with simplified control via the TV remote, while the Dialogue Level function ensures improved voice intelligibility in films and television programs.

The connectivity is particularly complete: on the input side, there is an analog [abc]RCA[/abc] port (for connecting a preamplified turntable or an [abc]CD audio[/abc] player), an [abc]optical[/abc] input and a [abc]USB[/abc]-A port. On the output side, the device offers an RCA preamp output, two digital outputs (one optical and one [abc]coaxial[/abc]), as well as a dedicated [abc]LFE[/abc] output for a subwoofer.

Yamaha WXC-70A, MusicCast ecosystem, Roon Ready and Custom Install integration The connected section is based on Yamaha’s MusicCast multiroom platform and is particularly open: Apple [abc]AirPlay 2[/abc], [abc]Chromecast (intégré)[/abc], Spotify Connect, Tidal Connect, Qobuz Connect, [abc]webradios[/abc] and Roon Ready certification are all included. The [abc]Wi-Fi[/abc] wireless link is complemented by [abc]Bluetooth[/abc] (SBC/AAC). Finally, the WXC-70A is designed for custom home automation integration (Custom Install) thanks to its Control4 compatibility, web configuration interface, Remote [abc]IR[/abc] input and 12V [abc]Trigger[/abc] output.

Availability of the Yamaha WXC-70A announced for fall 2026. Indicative price: 999 euros.
